The Federal Reserve - Making Sense In Plain English

The Federal Reserve* has a direct effect on all our lives through its economic reporting, analysis and policies. It is important for us to understand it so we can be better prepared for, and take advantage of, the information and decisions it produces.

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis hosts on their web site a tutorial section entitled, "In Plain English: Making Sense Of The Federal Reserve," that attempts to educate students and adults about the purpose, organization and operations of the Federal Reserve System in everyday terms and graphics. You can even take a quiz to test how much you learned and print off a completion certificate.

Click here to access the tutorial.

*The Federal Reserve System (more commonly referred to as the Federal Reserve, or just "The Fed") is the central bank of the United States. "It was funded by Congress in 1913 to provide the nation with a safer, more flexible and more stable monetary and financial system". Click here for their FAQ page.

The Federal Reserve For Kids Page is a great introduction to the Federal Reserve for anyone.
