Wilkum to Lancaster County and the scenic Pennsylvania Dutch Country. This is an area that visitors have grown to love. Here you'll discover Amish communities where life moves at a slower pace. You'll find beautiful scenery dotted with one-room schoolhouses and wooden covered bridges, modern farm machinery being pulled behind four-and six-mule teams, homemade clothing and quilts gently blowing in the breeze, and where you'll hear the clip-clop of horses' hooves echoing down quiet country roads.
This area offers a variety of family-oriented entertainment throughout the year:
shows, fairs, amusement parks, museums (including the Strasburg Railroad Museum and train rides), parks, some of the best shopping, outlet and farm market centers on the east coast, scenic countryside and plenty of good eating. Several of my favorite all-you-can-eat and smorgasbord restaurants are unique to this region. You can spend a day, a weekend or a week enjoying all that it has to offer. Lancaster County is easily drivable from South Jersey in under 2 to 3 hours, depending on your starting and stopping points. And did I mention about the good food? Most people think primarily of Lancaster County when talking about PA Dutch Country, but you will find some of the same flavor in nearby York, Berks and Lebanon Counties. Harrisburg, the state capital, can be found in Dauphin County as well as HersheyPark. Gettysburg is in Adams County.
